The Telegraph has become the latest media owner to offer podcast content, with downloadable cricket-based programming from columnist Simon Hughes, renowned for his simplification of the sport for novices.
Dubbed the ‘Analyst’, Hughes will podcast each afternoon from the three England-India test matches in March, as well as posting three times a day to the Telegraph website.
The podcast is sponsored by Brit Insurance, and builds on the company’s existing sponsorship of the Oval cricket ground, home of the Surrey team and a venue for UK test matches.
Explaining the move, podcast editor Guy Ruddle, said: “I am very excited about this chance to bring the great Simon Hughes’s top class analysis to listeners in a form that let’s them listen to it when it is most convenient.
“The ‘Analyst at the Test’ brings together the most innovative cricket commentator and the newspaper that’s leading the pack in new ways of delivering news and analysis to readers and listeners. It’s a natural fit.”
Negotiated by Nick Addicott and Tom Maidment, directors of WSM, and James Mann, group head of client sales for Telegraph Create, the podcast content is available from www.podcast.telegraph.co.uk.
Earlier this month free financial newspaper City AM launched a foray into the podcast arena, announcing City PM, a downloadable rundown of the day’s news, including a preview of the next day’s newspaper (see City AM Targets Commuters With Afternoon Podcast).
