SUBtv Extends Student Offing With Community Portal

SUBtv Logo Student TV operator, SUBtv, is expanding its operations with the launch of a dedicated website, allowing students access to interactive features, competitions, messaging, surveys and polls, all feeding into the campus TV network.

SUBtv currently operates in 91 UK universities, reaching 1.6 million students every week through more than 700 plasma screens at 115 installations across the country.

The new website will cover the same programming strands as the TV network, providing news, sport, music, film, animation and fashion content, as well as local university material. Much of the information and content hosted on the system will be provided by students themselves.

Users of the new site will be able to upload their own content, watch additional programming, make contact with new and old friends and hold discussions through message boards.

The site also offers increased reach to advertisers and sponsors, with SUBtv claiming the brand extension will add range and depth to existing campaigns, as well as increasing the number of impressions made on the student audience each week.

Peter Miles, chief executive of SUBtv, explained the significance of the new site, stating: “We are adding to our niche TV channel with a true community portal in order to provide additional opportunities to reach the most sought-after and potentially lucrative sector of the youth audience. We can help advertisers create content using whichever marketing technique or media channel they require.”

Online extensions of the SUBtv brand have proven successful in the past, with the company launching an online poker tournament last year as part of a year-long sponsorship deal with Titan Poker. The deal created a bespoke, student-facing poker site where the student specialist could arrange online games, with the activity supported by a national screen campaign (see SUBtv Extends Poker Events With Branded Tournament).
