Metro To Get Circulation Increase

Metro Logo Associated Newspapers’ morning freesheet Metro is to have its circulation increased by 250,000 copies.

The title’s London circulation will grow by 205,000 copies to over 750,000, whilst eight other city regions will have 45,000 copies between them.

The freesheet will also be distributed to 250 new stations in and around London and the south-east commuter belt.

The increase will start in the middle of September and will be completed by October 1, with the deal intended to raise Metro‘s daily circulation to 1.36 million copies across 16 cities in the UK.

Steve Aukland, managing director of Metro, said: “Metro has established a fantastic relationship with young, working ABC1 commuters but many of our target audience have not been able to pick up a copy of the newspaper so we are extending the supply.

“After lengthy consultation with agencies and our regional publishing partners, it is now prudent to go ahead with this significant increase.”

The latest ABC figures, for July 2007, show that Metro (London) had a total circulation of 500,563, down from 547,027 a month earlier (see thelondonpaper Stays Ahead Of London Lite).
