Christian O’Connell Signs New Deal At Virgin Radio

Christian O’Connell has signed a new two year contract with Virgin Radio that will keep him at the station until the end of 2009.

He joined Virgin Radio in January 2006 from Xfm and his current deal would have expired at the end of this year.

The new deal comes shortly after Paul Jackson, Virgin Radio chief executive left to join GCap Media as managing director of Capital 95.8 (see Jackson Leaves Virgin For Capital).

David Andrews, audience development director at Virgin Radio, said: “Christian has proved he is one of the hottest properties in British Radio with an impressive performance over the past two years.

“Three consecutive quarterly RAJAR increases demonstrate more listeners than ever are tuning in.

“He has been a huge commercial success – the Breakfast Show remains one of the most high-profile properties in radio.”

The latest RAJAR figures for Q2 2007 show that Total Virgin Radio reported a weekly reach of around 1.2 million at breakfast time, up more than 5% year on year.
