BBC Recruits Kazaa Chief Technology Officer

BBC Anthony Rose, chief technology officer at Kazaa/Altnet, has joined the BBC as head of digital media technology.

Rose, who takes up his post today, will be responsible for delivering the next generation of BBC iPlayer, as well as realising BBC future media & technology’s plans to create a unified embedded media experience across its online properties.

Prior to joining Kazaa/Altnet, Rose was vice president for technology at Sega Australia New Developments.

Erik Huggers, BBC future media and technology group controller, said: “I am delighted to welcome Anthony to the BBC. His knowledge and expertise in the digital media field is world class. I look forward to working closely with him to take our on-demand services to the next stage.”

Rose’s appointment sees the conclusion of the department’s reorganisation in which Erik has created six new teams.

The teams are: the internet group, led by Tony Ageh (which will be responsible for bbc.co.uk); the TV platform group, headed by Rahul Chakkara; the mobile group, led by Matthew Postgate; the digital distribution group, headed by Richard Cooper; and the user experience and design group, which is currently being led by Richard Titus and is responsible for improving the user experience for the BBC’s future media products and services.

Collectively these six teams will be responsible for ensuring the department achieves its ambitions of developing and delivering world class future media services and technologies.

MediaTel Group’s forthcoming seminar on the future of television will no doubt touch on where the iPlayer stands in the rapidly changing TV landscape and how it could change viewing habits (see Full-Day TV Seminar To Tackle Big Industry Issues).
