Spring Could Be New Emap Chief Exec

Stevie Spring Emap has reportedly approached Future chief executive, Stevie Spring, about its vacant chief executive role.

Reports in the trade press have said that Emap is building a shortlist of candidates, being put together by headhunters Zygos, to succeed Tom Moloney, who stepped down last month (see Emap Chief Executive Quits).

Before joining Future in June last year (see Spring Appointed MD Of Future), Spring was chief executive of Clear Channel UK . Before her six-year spell at the outdoor media specialist, she worked for ad agency Young & Rubicam as managing partner.

At Future, Spring has been heavily involved in focusing on the company’s digital strategy (see Magazines Must Work Harder To Evolve Content For Digital Platforms), which is something that Emap is looking at.

Today Future announced a pre-tax profit of £8.6 million for the six months to March 31 2007, with first half revenues from continuing operations at £95.3 million, a decline of 11% from a year earlier.

The magazine publisher’s revenues from online advertising were up 66% year-on-year, whilst its customer publishing revenues grew 59%.

Recently Emap announced that its pre-tax profits were down 13% for the year ending March 31, to £193 million.

The results also revealed that revenues at the company’s digital division increased by 32% (see Media In The City: Emap Sees Pre-Tax Profits Fall).
