ABC Could Make Major Changes To Reporting Structure

ABC Logo A new report commissioned by the Audit Bureau of Circulations will challenge newspapers and magazines to implement major changes to the way they report audience figures.

Douglas McArthur, former chief executive of the Radio Advertising Bureau, has apparently been working on the consultancy project and revealed his findings this week at meetings with the Periodical Publishers Association, the Newspaper Publishers Association and ISBA, according to a report in Campaign.

According to Campaign, proposals include making daily circulation figures available for newspapers, and magazines moving to monthly reporting of audience data.

The current ABC reporting schedule sees newspapers reporting monthly and magazines every six months. McArthur’s report will be discussed today, with the findings being made public at a later date.

The report was compiled for ABC chief executive Chris Boyd and the council, following extensive consultation with media agencies, owners and advertisers.

This will no doubt be one of the topics up for discussion at next week’s MediaTel Group seminar on the ‘Future of National Newspapers’ (see BREAKING NEWS: Final Panellist Confirmed For Newspaper Seminar).
