Richard & Judy Phone Quiz Controversy Takes New Twist

Channel 4 Logo The controversy currently raging over the alleged Richard and Judy phone quiz scam has taken a new twist, with reports claiming that it could have been going on for over four years.

The quiz scam claims began when the Mail On Sunday reported that a woman who phoned in and was chosen as a contestant for the You Say, We Pay competition watched as viewers were asked to keep entering.

Channel 4 has now opened an investigation into the claims, with Richard and Judy saying that they will refund any callers who have suffered at the hands of the alleged quiz con.

It is understood that, on average, 15,000 viewers per day call the £1 per-go premium rate phone number.

Channel 4 said yesterday that it is likely that the problems with the quiz affected all of last year’s summer run and the entire current series.

The You Say, We Pay competition was taken off air last Friday.

This is not the first time in recent months that a Channel 4 show has had trouble with its phone lines.

During the furore over the Big Brother racism row, Endemol, the shows producers, had to cancel some eviction votes following an on-screen error which meant viewers were given the wrong voting information (see Big Bro Blunder Signals Further Woe For C4).
