Ad Market Performed Better In April Says Sorrell

Sir Martin Sorrell Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of the world’s second largest advertising group WPP, has said that the advertising market in Western Europe has bounced back from its March downturn.

Sorrell was talking at A Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in New York via video link, where he said that advertising revenue for April was materially better than March.

“March was a strange month. April came back, in other words, very similar to January and February,” he said.

Sorrell said that the US Market performed better than Europe for the first third of 2008, adding that there are changes ahead in the advertising industry.

“Sweden this year will be the first country where internet advertising outpaces television and we think next year Google will be a bigger advertiser in the UK than ITV and the internet will outpace television in the UK,” he said.
