New editor for Marie Claire

Marie Claire IPC Southbank has appointed Trish Halpin as editor of its flagship women’s glossy, Marie Claire.

Currently editor of Southbank’s fashion and style mag In Style, Halpin will take up her new position on 2 February 2009, replacing Marie O’Riordan, who announced her resignation in October (see Marie Claire Editor Stands Down).

Jackie Newcombe, IPC Southbank managing director, said: “Our search for this prestigious role spanned three continents but it was very clear that, with Trish, we had the perfect editor already within Southbank.

“The role really is one of the most coveted jobs in publishing and to find the best candidate within the company illustrates the incredible depth of talent we have.”

Richard Johnstone, Marie Claire publishing director, added: “Marie Claire is already a compelling proposition – with a unique editorial positioning and an unparalleled number of premium women loyal to the brand, both on and offline.

“With Trish at the helm, Marie Claire will be the must buy brand for readers and advertisers alike. I am very excited about 2009.”

The most recent ABC figures, for January to June 2008, show that Marie Claire had a total circulation of around 317,000 copies following a slight year on year dip of 4.8% (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2008:Glamour Takes The Lead In The Women’s Monthly Sector).
