5.8m Watch England Triumph Over France

England Rugby England took on France on Saturday evening in the Six Nations rugby tournament, with England running out deserved winners.

England won by 24 points to 12 in a hard fought match, with the result owing more to guts and determination than flamboyant displays of skill.

A peak of 5.8 million adults (a 27% share of the audience) watched the coverage on BBC One, which started at 8pm and finished at 10pm.

On ITV1 at 8.30pm was the quiz show Duel, hosted by Nick Hancock, which managed a peak of 4.7 million adults.

Over its hour long running time it had an average of 3.5 million adult viewers, or a share of 16%.

Friday night saw Echo Beach continue to do poorly, with the post-modern programme picking up a peak of two million adults (a 9% share) in its 9.30pm slot.

On Sunday it was the return of crime drama series Lewis, starring Kevin Whately. The Morse spin-off began a new run last night and a peak of 8.6 million adults tuned in for their latest helping of criminal intrigue.

An average of 7.8 million adults (a 36.4% share) stayed with it for its two hour duration.
