The morning seminar, sponsored by Kantar Media, will feature two panels examining issues such as the size of research budgets, measuring and using new forms of technology, and merging market research with customer/purchase data.

Torin Douglas, BBC Radio’s media correspondent, will chair proceedings, and panellists confirmed so far include David Brennan, research and strategy director, Thinkbox; David Fletcher, head of MEC MediaLab, Mediaedge:CIA; Martin Hayward, director of strategy and futures, Dunnhumby; John Svendsen, director, Aevolve; Julian Dobinson, director of insight, BSkyB; and Jennie Beck, global director, Kantar Media.

The morning begins with a keynote panel titled ‘Can research cope?’. This will ask:

  • Getting value from research. Will innovation suffer?
  • What will happen to research budgets (inc. JICs)?
  • How does emerging consumer technology make data collection more challenging – can research benefit from using new technology?
  • Is online data collection working?
  • Online accountability is different – are we trying to fix a square peg in a round hole regarding a currency?

The second panel, ‘Research 360° – is media and customer data combined effectively?’, will examine:

  • Integrating consumer research with customer information – could these be linked more effectively?
  • Merging “old” media research with “new” data measurement – are companies missing a trick?
  • Utilising customer/crm info to deliver insight – how can we find out more about the consumer?
  • Bringing data to life – how to engage an internal/external audience

The ‘Future of Media Research’ will take place at Rutherford Theatre, 76 Portland Place, London, W1B 1NT, between 9:30am and 12.30pm on 2 April, with tea and coffee served from 8:45am.
