NYT Revenues Fall 15.4% In April, But Are Comparable With 1999 Figures

Ad revenues at the New York Times publishing company were down by 15.4% in April, whilst the flagship NYT newspaper saw a fall of 16% during the month.

The falls continue the trend from the first quarter which saw ad revenue across the group down 7% year on year (see New York Times Warns Of Ad Revenue Slowdown).

However, analysis by ABN Amro says that the 16% fall at the NYT stands against a 16.5% year on year growth last year. This means that revenue is now back to 1999 levels, effectively showing that the dotcom marketing boom of 2000 was anomalous.

Revenue at the national titles was down 21%, whilst regionals dropped just 3%. The group is expecting annual revenue to be flat to modestly down, says ABN.
