DMGT Buys Online Recruitment Sites

Publisher of the Daily Mail, Daily Mail and General Trust, has acquired Zambeasy Ltd, publisher of Top-Consultant.com and Office Recruit Ltd publisher of officerecruit.co.uk in a deal worth £4.1 million.

Top-Consultant.com is the number one UK recruitment site for management consultants, while Officerecruit.co.uk publishes classified listings of vacancies for secretaries, administrators, customer service and telesales, accounts and legal clerks. The acquisitions follow the purchase of Jobsite by DMGT in March 2004 for £35m.

Commenting on the deal, Andrew Hart, managing director, said: “In the last year we’ve seen Jobsite go from strength to strength and it was our aim to find related profitable companies to sit within Jobsite as part of an expanding Jobs division.”

He continued: “Top Consultant and Office Recruit both present us with unique opportunities to realise this goal. We’ve watched both companies and have been impressed by their management teams and the sites’ potential.”

Keith Potts, managing director of Jobsite added: ‘Online recruitment is a flourishing and profitable market. These acquisitions fit well with our strategy to build specialist vertical sites which complement Jobsite’s strengths.’

Both businesses will continue to be run by their current management teams as stand-alone operations. The sites will retain their brand names and strengthen Jobsite’s offering, providing a one-stop shop for recruiters and job hunters.

Earlier this summer, DMGT announced an increase of 7% in adjusted profit before tax, reaching £114.5 million, despite some of its businesses facing tough trading conditions (see DMGT Announces 7% Rise In Profits).

In the group’s interim results for the first half of the year ending 3rd April, advertising revenues for Associated Newspapers increased by 2.5%, with display advertising across the group increasing by 5.4%.
