Clear Channel Acquires Van Wagner’s UK Business

Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings has acquired the UK business of Van Wagner, which operates the country’s leading premium format outdoor advertising company.

The acquisition adds two new formats to Clear Channel Outdoor’s portfolio with the large format Mega 96 sheet and Mega 6 sheet products. In addition, Clear Channel says that the deal strengthens it’s market-leading position with additional backlit 96 sheet billboards and a range of special build billboard sites.

Barry Sayer, chief executive officer of Clear Channel Outdoor UK, said: “The acquisition of Van Wagner’s UK assets will significantly enhance the quality of Clear Channel Outdoor’s UK product, with 70 sites in the most prestigious locations across the capital, including the iconic LED screen in Piccadilly Circus and sites at London Bridge and the M4 Motorway.”

Richard Schaps, chief executive officer of Van Wagner Communications, commented: “We are very proud of the premium locations we have developed in the UK. The introduction of premium stand alone spectacular locations is something that Van Wagner has been famous for over the past thirty-five years. We are confident that Clear Channel will continue to operate them with the same commitment to quality presentation and customer service that are so much a part of the Van Wagner tradition.”

Paul Meyer, global president of Clear Channel Outdoor, added: “This acquisition will strengthen Clear Channel Outdoor’s position in London, one of the world’s most important ad markets and the host city of the 2012 Olympics. This acquisition and the recent announcement of our London digital billboard network underlines Clear Channel Outdoor’s commitment to the UK outdoor market.”
