Google accounted for 43% of the £2 billion spent by marketers on online advertising last year, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
In 2005, Google’s $878 million UK revenues saw it account for 35% of the £1.3 billion spent on online marketing.
In the paid-for search market Google accounted for 75% of the £1.2 billion spent in the UK in 2006.
This was up from 2005 when the UK paid-for search market was worth £768.4 million, with Google accounting for 63% of that figure.
Yesterday, new figures from the IAB and PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that UK internet advertising expenditure grew 41% in 2006, breaking the £2 billion barrier.
Last week, Google bought in-game advertising firm Adscape in a deal rumoured to be worth around £23 million.
