Google reports 6% rise in Q1 revenues

Google has reported a 6% rise in its first quarter revenues, to $5.51 billion (£3.72 billion).

However, revenues were down 3% in the first quarter compared to the fourth quarter of 2008.

Income in Q1 was $1.42 billion (£959 million), up from $1.31 billion (£884 million) a year earlier.

AdSense revenue was $1.64 billion (£1.10 billion), accounting for 30% of total revenues, a 3% year on year fall. Google-owned sites brought in revenues of $3.7 billion (£2.5 billion), 67% of total revenues, a 9% increase from a year ago.

Eric Schmidt, Google CEO, said, “These results underline both the resilience of our business model and the ongoing potential of the web as users and advertisers shift online.

“Going forward, our priority remains investing for the long term to drive future growth in our core and emerging businesses.”
