The online travel industry is expected to be worth $25.2 billion by 2003, with growth rates outstripping other e-retail industries. By the end of this year the sector will be valued at $12.4 billion, according to research by eMarketer.
Despite the fast growth and suitability of the internet for searching for a buying travel tickets, online sales are not expected to overtake offline sales for a while, with Net travel revenue accounting for just 5.6% of the US travel industryÂÂ’s $221 billion value. Online sales in other areas are already higher ÂÂâ computer product sales via the web account for 26.4% of the whole.
