EU Internet Take Up Rises But Broadband Slow To Take Off

Recent figures from the European Commission show that Internet penetration in EU households soared from 18% to 28% between March and October 2000, 40% of the EU’s 375 million population are now online. However, broadband internet access hass been slow to take off, less than 8% of these homes access the Internet via cable modems and only 1.1% have ADSL connections.

Costs of connecting are significantly different between the EU member states causing a disparity in the rates of take up between the countries.
