IA Market Set For 40% Growth

According to new research from Cahners In-Stat sales of internet appliance will soar by 40% – rising from $219m last year to $1.3b in 2005. Much of this growth is expected to occur outside Western Europe and North America where pc ownership is high.

The two categories of products, as defined by Cahners, are internet terminals, which includes cordless web tablets and corded terminals, and TV-based IAs such as Microsoft WebTV and AOLTV.

“While the introduction of the AOLTV box will invigorate that sector, sales of Internet terminals are expected to surpass those of TV-based IAs in 2001,” commented Brian O’Rourke, Senior analyst with In-Stat’s Multimedia Service.
