Strong E-Commerce Growth Forecast For Central Europe

Strong E-Commerce Growth Forecast For Central Europe

eCommerce in the four Central European countries, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, is set to grow from $100 million in 2000 to $650 in 2001 according to latest figures from IDC.

‘End-use’ ecommerce is set for the greatest growth and will account for two thirds of all B2B revenues in 2001, that is the purchasing of finished goods and services by businesses. Online purchasing as part of the supply chain will make up one fifth of revenues whilst the remaining $100 million wil be generated by consumer spending.

These increases concur with the growth in internet usage in the countries of Central Europe. By 2005, IDC forecasts that 23% of the population of these countries will be accessing the internet at least once a month, up from 8% in 2000.
