Internet access has topped the billion mark, with a record number of households having access to the web. Out of that one billion, 845 million are regular users, going online at least once a month, and 250 million have broadband access.
Top of the tables comes the US, with 175 million regular users and 43.7 million households now hooked up to broadband. By 2010, 90% of US households are expected to be broadband-enabled.
But the States’ supremacy could soon be challenged as other regions start to participate more fully in the internet boom.
Nearly 40% of the world’s broadband households live in the Asia-Pacific region. Latin America’s broadband subscribers increased by over 70%. And here in Europe, broadband households number over 55 million with 233 million of us regularly using the internet.
