RAJAR figures for Q3 2009 reveal that DAB set ownership is up 14% year on year, with 16.6 million adults aged 15+ (32.3%) now claiming to live in a household which has a DAB receiver. However, this is down from the Q2 2009 figure of 33%.

The RAJAR data also shows that DAB listening now commands a 13.3% share of all radio listening, up 18% year on year.

However, the total hours that people spend listening to the radio via DAB is down by one hour on Q2 2009, to 134 hours, although this is still a big increase on the 114 hours recorded in the third quarter of 2008.

Share of radio listening via any digital platform is up 14% year on year to 21.1% but remains stable period on period at 21.1%.

Listening to the radio via a digital platform in terms of weekly reach has risen by 11% year on year with 17.7 million people now tuning into the radio via a digital set each week, up from 15.9 million in Q3 2008. However, it is down by 1% on last period.

Total hours of digital listening now stands at 213 million hours per week, up 14% from 188 million hours in Q3 2008 but down 2% period on period.

Radio listening via mobile phone is enjoying steady growth among adults aged 15+, with a 7.5% year on year increase to 6.9 million.

The 15 to 24-year-old demographic shows a bigger increase, of 8.3% year on year. Around 33% of people in the 15 to 24-year-old age group say they have listened to the radio in this way, while 16% say they listen at least once a week and 3.2% say they listen every day.
