Icelandic broadcaster RÚV deploys streaming service using Leyra

Iceland’s national broadcasting service, Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), is the first public broadcaster to deploy on Leyra, the streaming platform made available through a joint venture between Accedo and Magine Pro.

The Leyra-enabled streaming service will launch initially on Samsung and LG platforms, covering live and on-demand television.

Leyra is designed for broadcasters and native streamers and supports customer acquisition, engagement and retention, underpinned by an open architecture.

Part of RÚV’s motive for using Leyra was to reduce the operating costs associated with building and maintaining a streaming service.

Hrefna Lind Ásgeirsdóttir, executive director of digital strategy at RÚV, says: “As a public service broadcaster, we must meet the highest standards and provide an engaging user experience.

“At the same time, it is equally important for us to keep costs and complexity under control.

“Leyra plays an important role in managing parts of our streaming platform and helps us extend our product portfolio as we continue to grow.”

Markus Hejdenberg, CEO at Leyra, says: “Partnering with RÚV is exactly the kind of work Leyra was built for.

“Public broadcasters have a critical mission, making national content available to everyone, reliably and accessibly. Leyra brings the platform depth, open ecosystem flexibility, and experience to make that possible, without the complexity.”
