Dominic Williams promoted to CEO of Mail Metro Media

Dominic Williams has been promoted from chief revenue officer of Mail Metro Media to the new role of CEO.

Williams will functionally continue to lead Mail Metro Media despite the new title.

Vere Harmsworth, the Daily Mail‘s executive chairman, commented that Williams “has the vision and commercial focus to lead Mail Metro Media into its next chapter. He is exceptionally well regarded internally and externally, with an unmatched reputation across the industry, a testament to both his commercial leadership and the relationships he has built.”

Williams joined Mail Metro Media as its chief investment officer in 2017 and was appointed chief revenue officer in 2021. Before joining the publisher, he worked at Dentsu’s Aegis Network as chief trading officer.

“I’m incredibly proud to be taking on the role of chief executive officer of Mail Metro Media,” Williams said. “It is a privilege to work alongside such a talented and ambitious team, and as our industry continues to evolve at enormous pace, my focus will be on ensuring we continue to innovate, strengthen our partnerships and deliver outstanding results for our clients while building an even stronger business for the future.”

The sales house’s commercial strategy was previewed last night at Mail Metro Media’s annual upfront event, held at the Outernet in London.

At the event, Mail Metro Media debuted new, understated branding (pictured, below) and sought to position itself as “the UK’s broadcast publisher”, a mouthful that more than one presenter had trouble pronouncing.

“Being a modern broadcast publisher isn’t an ambition anymore, it’s what we are,” Williams declared at the event. He described the Mail‘s embrace of social video and 50% reduced ad clutter on its website as part of a “glow up” that is resulting in “better outcomes for you and your brands.”

More reporting from the upfront event will be published by The Media Leader in the coming days.

The Media Leader caught up with Mail Metro Media’s new-look commercial team in July to discuss its new positioning and how they are staying nimble and focusing less on volume and more on driving attention and time spent amid an “existential” period for the publishing industry.
