Meanwhile KHBB has made four people redundant in its creative department. A further 9 people have resigned from WCRS following the restructure that left 20 people redundant last week.
Chiltern Radio has announced profits of £1.3m for the year to September 30, this represents an increase of 35% on the previous year. The Chiltern network, which covers the Northern Home Counties area, intends to expand by applying for some of the 30 new stations the Radio Authority will advertise next year.
The Guardian and Manchester Evening News have been in talks with Liverpool producer Phil Redmond which are believed to have involved joining a consortium to bid against Granada for its ITV franchise. Saatchi & Saatchi will be announcing its annual results this Wednesday. They will come at a time when optimism is rising over the possibility of refinancing £212m of Euroconvertible bonds due to be redeemed in July 1993.
Of the ‘outside’ interested parties in bidding for ITV franchises, MAI (News 23/11), Virgin (19/11), Associated Newspapers, Carlton and The Really Useful Company, only Virgin has discounted a bid for the breakfast franchise.
More than 200 staff at the British Satellite Broadcasting customer services centre in Leeds are being made redundant. BSkyB will only require limited services from the centre, as a similar operation has also been inherited from Sky. The number of redundancies resulting from the merger is now thought to total around 650.
