14 Apply For Solent/Mid Hants Radio Licences

The Radio Authority has received 14 applications for the new Independent Local Radio licences within the Solent/Mid-Hants area. The Authority expects to make avaialble four FM frequencies in the area although it will increase this number if it believs this would be justified.

The applicants are:

• Central Hampshire Radio Ltd. (Bob Kennedy, 01264 720275): a broadly popular service of tuneful music from the 60s to the present day, with news, information and other items of interest for local people.
• Harbour Radio Ltd. (Martin Jay, 01705 379481): a popular radio service featuring substanital amounts of news, information and feature material supported by familiar and high quality music with wide appeal but particularly aimed at 25-44 year olds.
• Hope FM (J. Blair Crawford, 01202 780396): this is the broadcasting arm of the Bournempouth YMCA and will aims to serve the area from its distinctive Christian and community foundations, providing a mix of newss, information and speech of strong local relevance balanced with uplifting music.
• Max FM Ltd. (Lee Moulsdale, 01703 222122): a full-service station playing a variety of hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s and today’s best new music combined with local news and information.
• The NRG (Bournemouth) Ltd. (Dudley Gibson, 01202 474222): rhythmic contemporary hit radio with a high proportion of dance and soul music and a high percentage of local-based speech programmes.
• Poole FM (Purbeck Radio Ltd.) (Jerry Larder, 01929 422805): music-based station playing classic hits from the 60s to today, with a high level of local news and information.
• Southampton City Radio Ltd. (Clare Carson, 01703 233774): Southampton-centred service of local news, views, information and entertainemnt, mixed with mainstream music tailored to varied tastes.
• The South’s Mix FM (South Dorset Radio Ltd.) (Ian Walker, 01202 777724): young, music-led radio with a commitment to comprehensive news, information and interactive features.
• Splash! FM (Radio Southampton Ltd.) (Trevor Curtiss, 017703 814928): information service with music for all the family.
• V107 (Vanguard Radio Ltd.) (Joseph Swain, 01209 314400): playing familiar hits from the past 35 years and current chart songs of adult appeal along with local news and information.
• Verwood Radio (Steve Saville, 01202 787740): providing a sophisitcaated, classic soft rock music format and free airtime access to all areas of the local community.
• Victory FM Ltd. (David Cousins, 0181 995 1507): local news and issues with a broad mix of popular and easy listening music and with programmes catering for specialist music tastes.
• Voyager FM Ltd. (Mark Platten, 01489 570779): broad-appeal service of popular music and speech, with a range of community information by day and a music led youth service every evening.
• Win 107 FM (Winchester Independent Radio Ltd.): mix of local news, information and popular music.

The Authority hopes to announce its decision about the award of the licences towards the end of the year.
