16% of Netflix subs watched House of Cards series 2 opener

15.7% of Netflix subscribers watched the opening episode of the second series of House of Cards on a US cable network, according to data from Procera Networks.

The figure – which was measured during a six to eight hour period on Friday – is significantly higher than the 2% that watched at least one episode of the first series last year over the entire weekend.

The data shows clear signs of binge viewing, with the figure peaking for the second episode at 16.1%.

Procera’s data also highlights the international appeal of Netflix, with 6% of the service’s subs watching at least one episode of series two on a Scandanavian broadband network, which Procera claims is “very impressive” for the region.

The second series of House of Cards will be the first show that Netflix streams in ultra-high definition.
