2% of UK homes classified ‘smart’

Nintendo TViiAccording to Strategy Analytics’ estimates, 2% of UK homes can now be classified as ‘smart’ and revenues from related hardware, services and installation fees will exceed $0.5B in 2012 and grow to over $1.5B by 2017.

The market for smart home systems and services in the UK is poised for growth and is set to become a major market opportunity for technology and service providers over the next five years.

The rise in demand for monitoring, control and security services by wireless carriers and security service providers is expected to drive the global smart home market to $72bn by 2017.

The Smart Home Systems and Services report goes on to predict that 16% of broadband houses in the world will have a minimum of one smart home system by 2017.
