2013: The year of the smartphone

Internet technology company comScore has released a report providing a comprehensive overview into the UK digital market, highlighting the ever-increasing use of smartphones.
‘Digital Future in Focus‘ gives in-depth insights into UK digital trends in web usage, online video, mobile and search, as well as a review of social, shopping and silver surfers.
It was revealed in the report that 82% of new phones acquired in December 2012 were smartphones and that 1/4 of these were bought by 25-34 year olds.
Last year the online video audience grew by 8%, whilst the mobile video audience rose by a massive 262%, responsible for 1/3 of all web-based page views. These figures demonstrate the increasing integration of smartphones and tablets into the UK’s digital market.
Mike Read, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for UK comScore said that “We’ve been preparing for a future scenario where most people will consume content on the go and PCs would no longer be the centre of the digital universe.
“This future is quickly becoming a reality with smartphones, now in the hands of 2 out of every 3 UK mobile phone owners, and devices such as smartphone and tablets now driving nearly a third of internet usage.”
