New figures from BARB for June 2009 show that 25% of all UK adults have watched TV on the internet, an 8% year on year increase, while 10% watched TV online in the past week.
The figures, revealed by BARB chief executive Bjarne Thelin at last week’s IEA Future of Broadcasting Conference, also showed that 38% of 15-34 year-olds had watched TV programmes via the internet.
Taking a look at average online viewing time, All Adults watched an average of 1.75 hours per week, while the ABC1 demographic watched TV online for an average of 1.73 hours.
Men watched TV online for an average of around 2 hours per week, ahead of Women at a comparitvely lowly 1.2 hours.
At 2.1 hours per week, 15-34 year olds were well ahead of the 35+ age range at 1.2 hours.
Five percent of 15-34 year olds said that they had watched TV on a mobile phone, with 1% of this age bracket saying they had watched on this platform in the past week. Three percent of All Adults have watched TV on a mobile.
Viewing on other handheld devices was at 2% of the adult population according to the BARB figures, with 4% of the 15-34 group watching on another device.
