26.5 Million Tune In For English Defeat
Last night’s Euro’96 Semi Final match between England and Germany attracted a peak-time audience of over 26 million viewers; of these, 19.8 million favoured BBC1’s coverage, leaving ITV with just 6.7 million viewers. The average for the match was 17.4 million viewers for BBC1, and 6.2 million for ITV.
At the height of viewing, 93.3% of individuals viewing were watching the match; this rose to 96.4% of men. The France v Czech Republic match, which saw France go out, attracted a peaktime audience of 8.8 million on BBC1, and 4.2 million on ITV.
