Apple TVApple has released its results for the first fiscal quarter with surprising figures for their streaming device, Apple TV. During the period starting September 30 to December 29, the digital media receiver shifted 2 million units, resulting in year on year growth of 60%.

The company’s first fiscal quarter results brings the total number of Apple TV devices sold over the years to more than 10 million units, making it one of the most popular streaming devices in the market.

While these figures are impressive they are dwarfed by the 48 million iPhones and 23 million iPads sold during the same period. The device has been previously described by Apple as a ‘hobby’ but the company has had considerably more success than Google, which has struggled with its Google TV.

It has been widely rumoured that 2013 will be the year the company will incorporate the technology into their own HD TV offering.
