Freesat has today announced the launch of 4 on Demand on Free Time, offering viewers the last thirty days of catch up and archived content from Channel 4.

Channel 4’s video on demand service joins the ranks of BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and YouTube on Free Time, bringing new Channel 4 programming in addition to 4oD’s library of shows.

Emma Scott, Freesat’s managing director said: “We’re delighted that 4oD is now live on Free Time, further strengthening our on-demand offering with yet more brilliant programmes. Our viewers can now watch their favourite Channel 4 shows in a variety of ways, giving them more opportunities to watch TV in the way they want to.

“It’s also incredibly exciting to be the first UK TV platform to host the HTML 5 version of 4oD, which enables us to make the simple pleasure of watching TV even better through great technology.”

Free Time launched last Autumn, bringing new features to the subscription-free satellite TV service, including a backward guide that lets viewers ‘turn back time’ to watch programmes that have already aired, a new showcase section providing TV recommendations and ‘enhanced’ on demand and recordings.

The platform was built on the widely adopted European open standards for hybrid TV; including elements of HbbTV and HTML 5 browser technology.

Freesat plans to grow the Free Time features, with plans including a remote record app for phones and tablets as well as the introduction of additional movie and music services.
