52% Of People Indifferent To Breakfast Show Presenters

Despite the hype which surrounds breakfast radio and TV presenters, 52% of those who watch TV or listen to radio in the morning claim that the presenters have little to do with their choice of programme.

The survey, conducted by the new BMRB division (BMRB Launches New Division), also found that 22% of people choose their breakfast time programme “mainly because of the presenters” while another 22% said that the “presenters are just one of the reasons” for tuning in.

On TV it is the presenters of the Big Breakfast who are the most influential. 52% of people who usually watch this show claim that the presenters are the main influence while the presenter effect is much less important for those who usually watch GMTV (25%) and still less for those usually watching BBC1 (15%).

On radio Chris Evans is the greatest draw. The presenter is more important to Virgin listeners than to any other radio station surveyed. 54% of those usually listening to Virgin claim the presenter is the main influence, compared to only 26% for Radio 1.
