YouView has revealed that approximately 60% of its subscribers access video on demand services every week, watching an average of seven programmes.

Eight months after its launch, YouView currently cites over 2.2 million VOD plays per week in almost 400,000 homes across the UK, with an average subscriber watching more than three hours of content in that time.

YouView is set to add internet channels to its service this summer, which will allow broadcast TV channels to be received via a broadband connection that will open up the service to a theoretically limitless number of live channels.

“We’ve had a great start and we’re delighted to have received such a positive response from consumers,” said Richard Halton, CEO of YouView. “We’re already the fastest growing TV service in the UK and now we can see that translating into viewing.

“Seamless access to content is at the heart of the YouView proposition and we are delighted to announce that internet channels are set to launch this summer as well as the extension of our app strategy to the Android platform. YouView is taking catch-up TV into the mainstream.”

YouView will announce details about new content providers and an Android version of the app, which will allow users to access a TV guide and use remote record functionality, in the next few weeks.
