£70,000 For The Regional Press
The Newspaper Society has been awarded £70,000 in grants by the Department of Trade and Industry. This forms part of the DTI’s sector challenge programme to support new media and training activity.
“This funding recognises the advances made by regional publishers in developing electronic and multimedia publishing services and products,” said Richard Beamish, the Society’s head of development, training and education.
A grant of around £36,000 will go towards a project entitled Newspapers and Electronic Media: Making the Next Move. This project will look at new media opportunities for the regional press in the UK over the next five years.
The rest of the funding has been awarded to a training programme, Industry Benchmarking: the Key to Progress.
