TV Overnights: BBC One draws 4.2m in prime time slot

BBC One’s Inspector Lynley Mysteries averaged a 4.2 million strong audience on Sunday during the hotly contested prime time slot of 9pm to 10pm.

The final episode of the fifth series of the since cancelled drama, gained a 17.7% share of viewers on Sunday night.

Elsewhere, Law and Order: UK gained 3.6 million viewers on ITV1 in the same prime time slot. Match of the Day, also shown on BBC One drew the largest day time audience on Sunday with an average audience of  2.3 million.

BBC One maintained the highest viewing figures throughout most of the day with the exception of ITV1’s Midsomer Murders which took an average of 1.4 million viewers between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

Channel 4’s documentary series Inside Natures Giants, this week focused on the sperm whale, subsequently drawing an average audience of 1.5 million viewers – the channel’s highest ratings for the day.
