887,000 Tune In For England v Andorra On Setanta

Setanta Sports An average of just 887,000 viewers tuned in to see the England v Andorra match on Setanta Sports 1, the only channel airing the game on Saturday, securing them a 4.7% share of multi-channel homes.

Last week, the channel controversially failed to reach a deal with ITV or the BBC over the rights to broadcast the highlights of the match.

The game attracted a peak audience of 1.1 million at the start of the second half.

Football also dominated the Sunday ratings, as ITV’s Soccer Aid 2008 picked up more than 6 million peak viewers and an average 20.5% audience share between 6pm and 10pm.

The celebrity and former World Cup players joined forces to play an England v Rest of the World match at Wembley in aid of UNICEF, which was presented by Ant and Dec.

ITV also stole the show on Saturday evening, with The X Factor attracting an impressive 9 million average viewers and a 42.8% audience share between 6.50pm and 7.50pm.

Coronation Street and Midsomer Murders banked high ratings for the channel on Friday evening but the Big Brother Finale managed to win over viewers during the second-part special show.

More than 5 million peak viewers tuned in to see Rachel win the Big Brother 9 £100,000 prize fund, as Channel 4 attracted over 22.7% of the audience share between 10pm and 11.05pm.
