Web-Site Of The Week – Channel 5
http://www.channel5.co.uk/home.html
The hype-machine around Channel 5 is pulling into top gear now. Its web-site has just launched. The site has been launched early to increase the excitement and suspense around the channel.
According to the home page, Channel 5 will be giving us music, movies, sex, thrills, fast cars, love, movies, drama, fun and money. Whether it will deliver these goods remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, once you have watched all those words flash past your eyes in rapid succession it will give you a headache.
When you have taken a couple of paracetemol and feel brave enough to explore the site further, you will find it quite easy to find your way around. There are 5 main headings; programming, retuning, advertising, channel evolution and shareholders.
Information is slowly trickling out on the schedule; visitors to the site are given a tiny section of the overall programme menu to scan. It may be enough to wet the appetite or turn you off ever tuning in.
The site does have some useful information for advertisers; there is an opportunity to fill out a questionnaire on target audiences. The sales team then promise to respond with the best advertising options to suit an individual company’s needs. Unfortunately, the Press Office is not making the best use of the space available to them. The most recent press-release on-line is dated 27 November 1996.
The site is ultimately one big piece of PR, but it is a small site and worth a quick look to get a feel of the image that Channel 5 is trying to create for itself.
