AA Creates Specialist Food Unit To Tackle Critics
The Advertising Association has created a Food Advertising Unit, specifically to deal with the role of food advertising. The unit has been set up in response to campaigns led by food activists to target food advertising in the nutrition debate.
The FAU will be seeking to open a dialogue with organisations, politicians and civil servants concerned with the advertising of food; in particular, the Unit will be at the forefront of questions surrounding food advertising and children.
Lionel Stanbrook, the AA’s Head of Legislative and Political Issues is to head the new unit. He said, “It is easy to point the finger at advertising because of its high visibility, and food activists have been doing just that. But they often misrepresent the debate with simplistic statements that obscure more complicated realities. The FAU has been set up to redress the balance.”
