AA Gives Views On Communications Bill To Joint Committee
![]()
The Advertising Association (AA) made a submission to the Joint Committee on the draft Communications Bill regarding the future arrangements for regulation of broadcasting advertising content.
Commenting on the submission made this week, Sara Soltani, the AA’s director of public affairs, said: “We share the Government’s belief that a system based on the lessons learnt within the ASA model is the most appropriate way forward. The AA hopes that the remaining obstacles to the development of such a system for broadcast advertising can be overcome during the course of the ongoing consultation on the draft Bill.”
An area where the Government and the AA are not in agreement, however, is the issue of the regulation of the BBC, which under the proposed measures of the Communications Bill would only be partly within the Ofcom remit. The AA has supported call from ISBA and other AA members in calling for the Corporation to be brought fully under Ofcom’s jurisdiction, and has commented on the remit of the Consumer Panel.
