ABC Results Jan-Jun 2005:Women’s Monthlies Report Mixed Results

Eve Magazine The latest set of ABC figures reveals mixed results for the nation’s women’s monthlies, with Hachette’s B enjoying the strongest rise, increasing its circulation by 30.6% year on year to 167,371.

Haymarket’s offering in the sector, Eve continued on from its good performance in the last round of ABC’s, gaining 8% year on year, with its circulation hitting 162,077 (see ABC Results Jul-Dec 2004: Haymarket Boosted As Eve Proves Successful).

Conde Nast’s pocket size Glamour, retained its position as the leader of the market, pushing its circulation up slightly to 609,626, a rise of 0.6% year on year.

She magazine saw the biggest % drop in circulation, slipping by 18.2% year on year to 148,262, while IPC Media’s Family Circle also suffered a dip, losing 15.9% for the same period, commanding a circulation of 110,159.

Elsewhere, National Magazine Company’s Company, dropped by 7.1% year on year, while Cosmopolitan pushed its total up by 1.4% year on year, enjoying a circulation of 462,943.

Natmags’ Prima and Zest both suffered declines, dipping by 1.2% and 6.0% year on year, respectively, while Good Housekeeping saw the largest actual increase in the sector, up by nearly 60,000 and overtaking Cosmopolitan by just over 12,000 to take second place, increasing its circulation by 13.9% year on year, to 475,838.

IPC Media reported strong results for Woman & Home, seeing its circulation rise by 7.9% year on year to 327,554. The company’s Essentials magazine did not enjoy such a strong performance however, dropping by 15% year on year. Marie Claire, however, managed to push its total up by a small 0.1% in the same period.

Conde Nast continued its upward turn, with Tatler increasing by 3.2% year on year, to command a total of 87,193, while Vogue also managed to push its circulation up, rising by 2.4% to 210,333.

Emap received good and bad news in the ABC figures, with Yours enjoying a healthy boost in circulation figures, up 6.3% year on year to 440,070. Figures for New Woman, however, were not so fortunate, suffering a 7% drop and dragging its circulation down to 270,686.

German publisher, H Bauer, saw both its titles lose circulation, with Real dropping by 1.2% year on year to 201,921 and Spirit & Destiny dip 4.8%, now commanding a circulation of 76,966.

The only new publication in the women’s monthly market, Conde Nast’s Easy Living reigned in a circulation of 171,038.
