ABC Results Jul-Dec 2007:TV Choice Scoops Top Spot Of TV Listings Mags Following Circulation Upturn

TV Listings Mags TV Choice ignored the overall downward trend for TV listings magazines, bolstering its circulation year on year for July to December 2007 and scooping top spot.

The title now reports a total ABC of over 1.4 million, following a rise of around 51,500 issues year on year.

What’s On TV moves to second place in the featured titles, after a fall of almost 51,000 copies. The title was also down period on period by 2.5%.

The Radio Times, which underwent a revamp last May (see Radio Times Gets Revamp For Digital Age), lost more than 28,000 copies year on year for the period despite a Christmas push (see Radio Times Launches Christmas Marketing Campaign). However, it was up period on period by just under 1%, taking the BBC title’s total to over one million.

IPC’s TV Easy, which now sports a new look in 2008 (see TV Easy Gets New Look For The New Year), fell over 13% year on year and over 10.5% period on period. This equates to a real term fall of more than 38,500 issues, taking its final figure to less than 255,000.

H Bauer’s TV Quick reported a downturn for the period of 14% year on year and 6% period on period. The title shed over 34,500 copies, taking its total to just over 211,500.

TV Times and TV & Satellite Weekly, both owned by IPC and with a new publisher appointed in December (see IPC Appoints New Publisher For TV And Soap Mags), saw their circulations fall year on year.

TV Times declined by 5% year on year, but was up over 1.5% period on period for July to December, taking its total to around 358,500.

TV & Satellite Weekly lost almost 6% of its circulation year on year for the period, a real term decline of almost 12,000 copies, giving it a total of under 195,500.

The only other featured title to boost its ABC for the period was H Bauer’s Total TV Guide. It added 6,318 copies to its total year on year, which now stands a little short of 116,000.

All featured soap titles saw a rise in their popularity both year on year and period on period, with the exception of Soaplife, which was down almost 6.5% compared to the first half of 2007 .

Hachette’s Inside Soap reports to be the most widely circulation title of those listed, with an ABC of over 200,000 copies. This is following an almost 6% year on year rise, adding almost 11,000 copies.

Hachette’s other title, All About Soap, now reports a circulation of over 100,000, which is a rise of almost 22,000 editions year on year.

Soaplife was up by 5% year on year, giving the magazine a circulation of around 102,500 issues for July to December 2007.
