ABC To Re-Issue Circulation Figures Across Emap Titles

The Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) is to re-issue figures for 14 of Emap’s consumer magazines following the publisher’s infringement of the complex rules that separate paid-for bulk copies from those circulated free.

The titles affected are Arena, Elle, FHM, Mixmag, Here’s Health, Mother and Baby, New Woman, Pregnancy and Birth, Q, Red, The Face, Slimming, Smash Hits and Top Sante. The restated results will be announced on the 29 October.

Chris Boyd, chief executive of ABC, commented: “As a result of a routine inspection, it was found that certificates for 14 publications required re-issue. Emap have co-operated fully and worked closely with ABC to identify the extent of the issue, so that the details could be brought to the market without delay.”

A spokesperson for Emap added: “Emap is committed to complete transparency of its auditing procedures. We have worked closely alongside ABC in removing the copies that infringed ABC rules and fully support the reissue of ABC certificates.”

Last year the ABC abolished the rule allowing publishers to sell magazines at a minimum price of 1p (see ABC Amends Minimum Price Rule), after both Hello! and OK! saw unusually high rises in circulation in the latest set of ABC results.
