Aegis chief executive will leave today

Aegis Logo Robert Lerwill, the Aegis group chief executive, is set to leave the company today without a job to go to.

Following a sudden announcement yesterday afternoon, Aegis confirmed Lerwill’s departure and said chairman John Napier will cover his role on an interim basis.

Napier joined Aegis as chairman in July this year – he is also chairman of Royal & Sun Alliance.

He said: “The board wishes Robert well and thanks him for his contribution to the growth of the company in his period as a non-executive director and chief executive.”

It is understood that Lerwill’s departure is related to ensuring the company has a firm direction in the current downturn, rather than to the company’s financial performance, according to reports.

In the announcement, Aegis said they will produce operating results “broadly in line with the average of current market expectations”.

Napier said his priority at Aegis will be to ensure the group is in “the best possible shape to meet the challenging conditions ahead”.

Lerwill said: “I have enjoyed my time at Aegis. I leave the group in good hands, with a strong management team capable of meeting the demands of the future.”
