Airey To Chair GEITF Executive Committee

Dawn Airey is to take over from John Willis as chair of the executive committee of the GEITF from September this year. The Channel 5 chief executive is taking on Willis’ role as he is leaving to work at WGBH in Boston, USA.

Airey, who last year delivered the Richard Dunn Memorial Lecture at the Festival (see GEITF Report: Channel 5), said: “Being asked to become the chair of the executive committee is a great honour. John is going to be a hard act to follow, under his stewardship the Festival has taken great strides. The combination of the brightest minds in the industry and the prospect of a punch up in the George bar make it unmissable. As chair, I intend to make the Festival even more provocative, thought provoking and enjoyable than ever.”

The GEITF executive committee takes overall responsibility for the governance for the Festival and its educational initiatives, TVYP and TV25. It is made up of senior television industry figures- Airey already sits on the committee and was the advisory chair for the 2000 Festival. In her new role she will be responsible for appointing the advisory chair each year, recruiting and observing the festival director, have approval on all festival bugetary and business matters and chair the executive committee meetings.

Willis held the position for five years. This year’s Festival will take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre from Friday 23 August to Sunday 25 August.
