Video ad tech company Unruly has hired a former managing director of Oath and AOL, Alex Khan, as its new UK MD.
Khan has over 25 years’ experience working in the ad industry, most recently as managing director for APAC at in-app advertising business Smaato, where he spent just over a year. Prior to this he held senior leadership roles across the industry, including managing director of Oath: Platforms in APAC, managing director of AOL in Asia and ANZ, and head of agency sales at Yahoo! UK.
As Unruly’s UK MD, Khan will be responsible for accelerating the growth of the business in the UK, focusing on strengthening its offering as a unified platform for cross-screen video media services and launching new services across connected TV, in-app and InStream.
As an advocate for diversity in the industry, Khan will also work to ensure Unruly is a diverse and inclusive workplace.

“Unruly is one of the biggest names in the video advertising industry — a truly multi-optional partner to clients, requiring a mix of deep industry knowledge, creativity and best-in-class products,” Khan said.
“Its recent acquisition by Tremor International gives the business an unrivalled, powerful proposition in the market. I can’t wait to continue driving the company’s growth in the UK through investment in a breadth of innovative new services — including CTV, in-app and InStream — to build a unified and integrated platform across any screen media services.”
Tremor International acquired Unruly from News Corp at the beginning of this year, and subsequently decided to make the Unruly brand its international arm.
Commenting on the appointment, Steve Sottile, CRO at Unruly, said the “primary focus” of the business since its acquisition has been on “tech integration”.
“It’s now time to ensure we have the right people and processes in place to accelerate our growth in key markets,” he added.
“Alex is a highly experienced and talented leader, and has a wealth of expertise in refining and driving a business’ goals in multiple regions. This makes him a crucial asset to Unruly, and we are confident that he will be a key driver in strengthening our position in the UK.”
