The BBC is to launch a “new iPlayer” which will see the corporation’s radio and TV content on a single iPlayer interface.
Speaking at the Broadcast Digital Channels Conference last week, BBC head of digital media technology Anthony Rose said that the new iPlayer will be ready to go live in “a few weeks time”.
The new look service will also include a recommendations feature bringing new content to users based on their past choices.
The recommendations will be based on genre clusters that the broadcaster is identifying by analysing usage patterns.
The next two to three months will see different personalisation techniques tested before any are chosen, said Rose.
Individual users on shared computers will have a personal log in that will allow them to protect and build on their own profile.
Recent figures from the BBC revealed that the iPlayer has now received more than 75 million requests to stream or download programmes (see iPlayer Receives More Than 75m Requests To View Since Launch).
