All Star Period Drama Attracts Over 7.8 Million To BBC One

Cranford Last night’s all star period drama, Cranford, was watched by an average of more than 7.8 million adults, giving BBC One a 30.7% viewing share between 9pm and 10pm.

The likes of Dame Judi Dench, Imelda Staunton and Philip Glenister graced the cast list for the production, which was based on the Elizabeth Gaskell novels, following the inhabitants of a 19th century Cheshire market town.

Over on ITV1, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! was seen by almost 6.5 million (25.4%), whilst Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman’s epic adventure from John O’Groats to Cape Town attracted over 3.6 million (14.2%).

Earlier, long-running 1960s family cop drama, Heartbeat on ITV, won the 8pm to 9pm slot with an average adult audience of more than 7.2 million viewers, giving the channel a 28% viewing share.

Clarkson and Co on Top Gear lured more than 5.9 million (22.9%) to BBC Two, whilst almost 5.8 million (22.3%) joined Sunday night staple, Antiques Roadshow, on BBC One.

Strictly Come Dancing‘s results show, on between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on BBC One, was seen by over eight million adults, with Kate Garraway finally booted out of the competition.

Meanwhile, the main programme on Saturday night gained an average adult audience of more than 8.5 million (42.5%), whilst The X-Factor attracted more than 7.3 million (35%) for ITV1.

More than 6.7 million saw the singing contest’s results show, on during the second half of Casualty on BBC One, whilst almost 6.7 million (33.3%) stayed tuned for I’m a Celebrity…

Friday night’s Children In Need Coverage on BBC One had an average adult audience of more than 8.1 million (a 37.4% share) before the News and 4.2 million (47%) after the News.
